How Artificial Intelligence is transforming Nigeria’s non-oil sector

The adoption of Artificial Intelligence at every possible touch point of the Nigerian economy is capable of delivering economic prosperity and reversing years of under-development. CHIMA NWOKOJI in this report outlines the importance of applying Artificial Intelligence in various sectors to catalyze Nigeria’s non-oil economy

“Anyone who thinks that the world after COVID-19 will be the same as the one before it, is mistaken.” the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said.

Indeed, change is the only constant. The world has changed post-COVID-19 and will keep changing.

Technology will continue to push back human efforts in several areas. The world has gradually accepted the new normal. Remote work, e-meetings, e-commerce, e-transactions and drive for contactless human interactions at every touchpoint is becoming a way of life, and Nigeria cannot afford to be cheering from behind with no medals and no glory.

According to the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product report, by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the gradual improvement in economic activities this year was largely driven by the non-oil sector, which grew by 0.8per cent in 2021Q1.

The over-rated oil sector – which accounted for 9 per cent of real GDP – remained in contraction territory at -2.2 per cent in 2021Q1.
